Rebirth, Revenge!
Hum.
The next time Bai Ye could make out her surroundings, she was back in the coffin. Laid beside her was the thin and scraggly body of her deceased grandfather. The wrinkles on his face stood out even more in death.
“Little Ye, look what Grandpa brought you.”
“Little Ye, here is some osmanthus cake.”
The memories of her grandfather rose to the surface. Bai Ye was reminded of how much the old man loved her.
Bai Ye was coddled by her grandfather growing up. Right after his death, she was forced into a situation where death was her only salvation. The orchestrator of the events was none other than her savior from ten years ago. Throughout the years, she had developed real feelings for her fiancé, which made the betrayal hurt even more.
Bai Ye felt the resentment and despair growing in her. She wondered if the emotions stemming from the white creature had fused with her.
All those sweet memories from the past led up to this fateful day—a day where Bai Ye ended her life. The hideous faces of the beggars floated in her mind and one by one, they were replaced with Qing Xuantian’s face.
Hatred!
Disgust!
Her hand clutched her chest in response to the hostility that roiled and threatened to break through.
‘Little Ye, he’ll die in my hands one day,’ Bai Ye reassured herself. The intense animosity in her chest subsided with her promise.
Qing Xuantian’s voice echoed, “Where is she?” The man was in the mourning hall.
He had left earlier with Liu Mingyan in tow but the commotion made him stop. A few beggars ran past them and he managed to get the story out of one of them. Bai Ye came back as a zombie?
Perhaps…
“Little Ye, where are you?” Qing Xuantian wondered about the Bai family inheritance. He had a hard time believing that Bai Ye became a zombie. It must have been the
awakening of her blood
after being forced to commit suicide. If it was true…
The thought excited Qing Xuantian and he crooned softly, “Little Ye, it’s Brother Tian. Where are you?”
“Heh…” Qing Xuantian’s sudden change in tone elicited a taunting chuckle from the coffin. Darkness entered Bai Ye’s eyes that were void of emotions.
Fingers clutched at the open lid of the coffin. A resurrected Bai Ye crawled out of the enclosure.
Liu Mingyan caught up to Qing Xuantian. “Brother Tian…” She had wanted to convince him there was no one here and that they should leave. Words failed her when she saw Bai Ye crawling out of the coffin in blood-soaked clothes.
Liu Mingyan felt the hostility in Bai Ye’s gaze. The penetrating stare bore through her soul and Liu Mingyan felt as if she was being judged in hell.
“Ghost!” Liu Mingyan screamed at the top of her lungs.
Qing Xuantian watched as Bai Ye pulled herself out of the coffin.
Although Bai Ye’s wounds had healed over, her wardrobe did not get the same treatment. The bloodstained clothes coupled with the apathetic gaze made her look like a hungry ghost searching for souls to devour.
“Little Ye!” The appearance of Bai Ye surprised Qing Xuantian but he recovered quickly. He took a few cautious steps toward the girl by the coffin.
“Little Ye, everything is in the past now. Come with me.” The dulcet tones of Qing Xuantian echoed in the mourning hall. The stare he gave Bai Ye was soft and loving, reminiscent of a caring fiancé.
If Bai Ye had lost her memories, she would believe the man before her truly loved her. Unfortunately, her memories were intact and she remembered all the mistreatment she had had to endure with this body.
“Brother Tian! Don’t get too close, she’ll bite!” Liu Mingyan called out from the entrance of the mourning hall when she saw Qing Xuantian edging closer to Bai Ye.
Just as the words left her, there was a sudden movement in the room.
Bai Ye became a blur. Like a predator with a prey in sight, she launched herself at Qing Xuantian.
覺醒了白氏的傳承, translating it as “awakening of her blood” instead of “awakening of her inheritance” for better storytelling.
