Chapter 84: The Mastermind

There wasn’t time to hesitate. Just as Fu Yunian was about to leave to unveil the truth behind Li Biao’s death, a gentle hand stopped him.

“We should focus on what’s in front of us now.” Su Yu turned to Wu Xuan, gesturing to him that they had a witness.

After the doctors spent hours keeping her alive, Wu Xuan was finally out of the woods. She came clean about everything she knew. Once the truth was made public, Su Yu and the gang came to Lin Sisi’s residence.

It was too easy pushing the door to her bedroom open, taking Su Yu by surprise. Was she waiting for anyone’s arrival, or had she fleed?

She remained tense until she saw Lin Sisi in the corner of her room. Lin Sisi had her back facing Su Yu as she leaned against the window sill, her eyes fixed on the distance.

Su Yu came forward, eyes with fury as she stared into Lin Sisi’s. She asked, “You knew we’d come, didn’t you? That’s why you’re waiting for us here?”

Lin Sisi grabbed a pen and wrote her reply on paper. “Yes. I’d like to know how’s Wu Xuan doing.”

Su Yu stood rooted, not knowing which she should disclose—Wu Xuan’s health or that she had sold Lin Sisi out.

“Someone poisoned her, and I think you know why.” Fu Yunian cut to the chase when Su Yu was zoning out.

Lin Sisi’s body went rigid. “Poisoned? I never poisoned her.” As a pained expression flashed across her face, she put her pen down. Moments later, her blotched eyes became crystal clear as if she had just sorted something out. Yet, her tight-knitted brows were evidence of her internal struggling.

Su Yu could see how torn she was, and she paused. She waited with Fu Yunian in silence.

Minutes passed, and Lin Sisi found tranquility, her gaze determined as the words flew on the paper. “It must’ve been Chu Yaoyao. I helped her with all her dirty deeds, but look what she did to me. I now know—she’s the devil! I truly regret my deal with her. If I hadn’t tried to hurt you, I wouldn’t have become what I am now. What has deepened my regret even more was holding a candle to the devil. I mean, you’re so smart and kind. I shouldn’t have entangled you into this mess. I’m sorry for what I’ve done, and I’ll repent my sins with my life. Take care.”

Su Yu knew Lin Sisi wasn’t lying this time—her grip on the pen got more and more intense nearing her last words. All Su Yu felt now was a relief. No matter how wicked Lin Sisi was, she was the puppet with the string the whole time. Now she’d ended up this way, which might be the best punishment for her. There was no need to hold resentment to the past, especially when Lin Sisi suddenly pointed the tip of her pen towards her torso—every inch of Su Yu’s grievance was gone.

“I forgive you. If it weren’t for these incidents, I’d never know how I feel about Yunian,” Su Yu smiled faintly.

While Lin Sisi got distracted, Fu Yunian seized the pen and laughed. “Her words are mine. We’ll drop the lawsuit and not press charges.”

When Su Yu and Fu Yunian exchanged glances and beamed, so did Lin Sisi with gratitude. They weren’t so merciful with Chu Yaoyao, though. Everyone sent Chu Yaoyao to prison, and she got convicted for her crimes. She’d spend the rest of her life doing prison labor.

After everything they’d been through, Su Yu and Fu Yunian got back together.. Su Yu’s family finally approved of him, and together with their children, they lived happily ever after.
